MSTRKRFT (read as "Master-kraft") is an electronic music group from Toronto (East York), Ontario, Canada who are signed to Last Gang Records. The group was started in 2005 by Jesse F. Keeler formerly of Death from Above 1979 and Al-P (Alex Puodziukas) formerly of the Mississauga electropop group Girlsareshort. Al-P was also the producer for Death from Above 1979's second album You're a Woman, I'm a Machine as well as several of (Jesse's former band) Black Cat #13's records. MSTRKRFT also produced Die Mannequin's first EP, How to Kill, and Magneta Lane's second LP, Dancing With Daggers.[1].

The last album from Murder by Death I posted was the first album they recorded with their new singer. The album I post now is the last they recorded with their old singer. Being a fan of Murder by Death I can't really say anything negative about this album, very beautiful rhytmes with intriguing lyrics. I love it

Formed in 2004, Leeds four-piece ¡Forward, Russia! are an art-indie band consisting of Tom Woodhead (vocals, synthesizer), Rob Canning (bass), Katie Nicholls (drums, vocals) and Katie’s brother Whiskas (guitar, vocals and synthesizer). Their sound is characterized by trebly guitars and abstract, cryptic lyrics. Up until 2007’s “Don’t Be A Doctor”, songs are named for the order they were written in (One, Two, Three, Four, etc.). Their image is characterized by wearing identikit t-shirts, with their exclamation mark emblem emblazoned on them.

Eagles of Death Metal - Death By Sexy

Eagles of Death Metal is the embodiment of all fuzzed out, overdriven guitar rock to shake your booty to. Don’t look for deeper meanings or avant-garde synthesizer tricks, because these Eagles are strictly business. On their first album, Jesse “The Devil” Hughes tackles the subjects of dancing, dancing, speed, boogeying (see: Dancing), sex, and killing his ex-wife, all with smooth falsetto vocals, infectious guitar by Tim Vanhamel from Millionaire, and Josh Homme’s solid percussion skills. John Lee Hooker - Chill Out

John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1917 – June 21, 2001) was an influential American blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter born in Clarksdale, Mississippi. From a musical family, he is a cousin of Earl Hooker.
Though he stuttered slightly in his normal speech, he performed in a half-spoken style that became his trademark. Rhythmically, his music was free, a property common with early acoustic Delta blues musicians. His vocal phrasing was less closely tied to specific bars than most blues singers’. This casual, rambling style had been gradually diminishing with the onset of electric blues bands from Chicago but, even when not playing solo, Hooker retained it in his sound.

One of the greatest blues artists that ever walked the face of this planet, I love to listen to this music, fix myself a drink and just chill. Good old Rhytm and blues, none of that modern pop crap.
This album has some duets, including one with santana. You'll love it!

Experimental Aircraft - Third Transmission

Rachel Staggs (vocals, guitar) and T.J. O’Leary (vocals, guitar) formed Experimental Aircraft in October 1997 in Austin, Texas. Mark Smith joined soon after on bass, and the trio performed live with several different drummers before recruiting Jason Ferguson in mid 1998.

This isn't the first shoegaze album I post on our blog, however it is more dreamy than than the first album (The Helio Sequence). It's very very relaxed I love the way the voice and the bass, guitar blend in with eachother.

Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Sunday at Devil Dirt

Isobel Campbell is the former cellist and backup vocalist for Belle and Sebastian, as well as leader of The Gentle Waves. Mark Lanegan used to be the frontman of the Seattle grunge band Screaming Trees, and has recently played with Queens of the Stone Age. Mark has also been releasing his solo albums since 1990.

Isobel and Mark come together now, to form a unique combination of gruff vocals and dulcet voices for their joint collaboration, Ballad of the Broken Seas, which received a nomination in the 2006 Mercury Awards.

This is the brand new, unreleased, leaked album of Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan, after enjoying their first collab album (Ballad of the broken seas) this is a must have. The combination of their voices is pure beauty.

Maxïmo Park are an indie band hailing from various towns in North East England. Consisting of Paul Smith (vocals), Duncan Lloyd (guitar), Archis Tiku (bass guitar), Tom English (drums) and Lukas Wooller (keyboards), the band has drawn comparisons to Northeastern counterparts The Futureheads, as well as Franz Ferdinand, Pulp, Bloc Party and The Ordinary Boys for their addictive musical style and direct, edgy rock-pop sound.

The Libertines - Up The Bracket

The Libertines were a popular English punk revival band that formed in 1997 and disbanded in 2004. The band only released two full-length LPs, both produced by Mick Jones of The Clash. Centered around the song-writing partnership and chemistry between Pete Doherty (vocals/rhythm guitar) and Carl Barât (vocals/lead guitar), while backed by John Hassall (bass) and Gary Powell (drums), the band were one of the cornerstones of the English indie scene in the early 2000’s

Battles are an American rock band which formed in 2002. The album received an extremely high score of 9.1 in a Pitchfork Media review; “Atlas”, meanwhile, was voted “best single of the week” by NME, and received a glowing review in the UK’s Clash Magazine where comparisons were made to Glitter Beat.

Battles is an exprimental rock, math rock. Anyway you could've judged by the high score it got from Pitchfork media review that this album is not bad. However it is not your usual rock album and as with all experimental rock you should listen to it a few times before drawing any conclusions

Elegies To Lessons Learnt is iLiKETRAiNS’ first studio album, released on 1 October 2007. As with their EP, Progress Reform, many of the songs cover historical events, which the band are especially interested in

iLikeTrains is one of the bands who will perform on Polsslag 2008, so I decided to give them a go after hearing quite abit of positive things. Their myspace describes them as 'melodramatic popular song', and I can tell you one thing, their music doesn't really sound that possitive. However I do like listening to them from time to time, in my opinion they are abit like Joy Division (not only the genre). So give it a go

Ellen Allien and Apparat, two headstrong musicians who indeed differ in their musical context but still come together not just at the peripheral rims, collaborated on an album together: “Orchestra of Bubbles”. The Notwist - Neon Golden

The Notwist is a German indie rock band. They have been very strongly influenced by the electronica scene, along with the other groups of Morr Music.

Acher, Acher, and Messerschmidt formed the group in 1989 in Weilheim, near Munich. In 1990 they recorded their self-titled debut, a grunge-metal oriented LP. 1992 saw the release of Nook, which has an indie rock sound, while their 1995 album 12 contains their first flirtation with electronics. Martin Gretschmann (aka Console) joined the group in 1997. Shrink, released in 1998, is a jazz-electro-rock album which in some ways anticipates Radiohead’s Amnesiac. The album Neon Golden (released in 2002) put them on the map for American listeners, with its heartfelt sentiment and catchy tunes.

THE most relaxed album in my entire music library, took me a while to get used to (wich is not abnormal for me) but in the end it is impossible to not like it!

Portugal. The Man is an American indie four-piece from Wasilla, Alaska. It consists of former members of the band Anatomy of a Ghost. The group is no longer signed to Fearless Records.
Musically, Portugal. The Man's style is one of variation. Their style is both rooted in the indie and experimental genre, but their songs also contain elements of soul, blues, and folk music. At times, the band chooses to utilize drum machines and/or synth loops to anchor their songs, while at other times, the band chooses to use the more conventional guitar, bass, and acoustic drum configuration that is characteristic of rock music. The band also utilizes the keyboard in much of its music. In addition to their instrumentals, Gourley's distinctly higher-pitched vocals add to Portugal. The Man's unique sound. Lyrically, Gourley provides the band with abstract and/or enigmatic lyrics that rely heavily on imagery. Gourley's verses are usually delivered in the first person singular or plural.

Wiki gave a beautiful description of the band, can't realy add more to it.
I love the album! Especially the vocal and instrumental music floating into each other. The bass/drum is very nice! still quite simpel though, but it accompanies the guitar so marvelous. Together, they're overwhelmed by the unique vocals.

The band produce an eccentric brand of electronic indie similar to that of The Postal Service and other bands.

CWTAB is a Belgian Experimental indie rock band from Antwerp, their music is often compared to queens of the stone age. But I like to think they've got their own distinct style. It's a sideproject of Tim Vanhamel (Millionaire), and Mark Lanegan also worked on this album. The album is a must have for everyone!

These New Puritans - Beat Pyramid

These New Puritans are a four-piece 'magic wave' band from Southend-on-sea, consisting of Jack Barnett (vocals, guitar, computer, sound), his twin brother George Barnett (drums, tapes, percussion), Tomas Hein (bass guitar, sampler, backing vocals, percussion) and Sophie Sleigh-Johnson (synthesizers). They mix indie with samplers and electronic experimental sounds.

Beat Pyramid is a rather unique album. Like written above, they mix electronic experimental sounds into indierock, what leads to some weird combination from time to time.
Not only their sound is rather unique, These New Puritans also decided to add some symmetry to their album, the album literally starts and ends with the same sentence "I will say this twice". Also notice the middle song "Infinity Ytinifni"..

I noticed this one on the web today, they were described as "sounds like Arctic Monkeys" so I downloaded it right away, and gave it a try.
And I have to admit, I do recognise some Arctic Monkey-tunes in it.. Especially in 'The Daily Dust' and 'The polka', yet, there's so much more in their songs! So after reading this, don't start thinking they're tryin to copy some Arcticstyle, no, not at all you might just notice some resemblance.
But enough whining about the album, go and give it a try because the link will be deleted in a month, that's right, it's just a try-out version! And in my opinion that's a real nice opportunity those riot-guys give you.

Clinic are a Liverpool based indie rock band noted for their often fast-paced, eclectic sound. Their distinguishing sound can commonly be recognized by their prominent use of vintage keyboards/organs, most notably the Philips Philicorda and peculiar off-scale chord progressions. The band's official website once stated they sound "like no other band".

That's right, I'm going on a holiday and I'm not taking my laptop with me. So as a direct consequence I will not be able to post any music this week and next week (until the first of april). But on the other hand I will have a chance of listening to alot of music and when I come back I might have some rediscovered goodies!

Despite relatively modest beginnings and a back catalog of independent labels, the band has risen to steady popularity, having performed tours on four continents and signed to a major label. De-Loused in the Comatorium is the first LP and concept album by the progressive rock band The Mars Volta. Based on a short story by lead singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala, and sound manipulation artist Jeremy Michael Ward, it is the hour-long tale of Cerpin Taxt, a man who tries to kill himself by overdosing on morphine. The attempt lands him in a week-long coma during which he experiences visions of humanity and his own psyche. Upon waking, he is dissatisfied with the real world and jumps to his death

De-loused in the comatorium is The Mars Volta's debut album, and in my collection (and many others) one of the most popular Mars Volta albums. Just because it is 'easier' to listen to than their other albums.
The album is a masterpiece of blending in different genres of rock. It is the best album to start getting into The Mars Volta so you can better understand and enjoy frances the mute and amputechture.
The album definatly has a story, and if you look closely at the cover you can see, in the background, a guy in one of those hospital clothes, thats Cerpin Taxt

The Sound of Animals Fighting are an experimental/prog rock band incorporating many members, including members from bands such as Finch, Rx Bandits, Circa Survive and Chiodos. The group was brought together by Rich Balling.
All of the parts of the album Tiger and the Duke were recorded individually and each member was only able to hear the part they contributed to the album. The only member who heard the whole album during its recording process was Balling.

It is a concept album revolving around the title character, Duke, and the Captain who runs the ship they are sailing. The cargo of the ship are crazy animals who howl and fight below the deck. Eventually the Captain's sons start a mutiny in which the Captain jumps off the ship.
This is for everyone who likes At The Drive-In and The Mars Volta! here is there debut album (not the reissued/remixed version)

If you don't like the tracks on their myspace, go ahead and download it anyway. Because they use different line-ups for every album they make!

Death from Above 1979 were the Toronto-based duo of Jesse F. Keeler on bass/synths and Sebastien Grainger on vocals/drums. Refusing to employ a lead guitarist, they played loud synth infused noise-funk, often referred to as dance punk, on the drum and bass combination alone

Indeed, they were, unfortunatly they split without making another studio album than their debut album. But no worries, it's a great piece of music!
You've got to like the noise genre abit though, but if you are not into that, just try it. What's stopping you anyway, except that cheesy download limit.
